अकाल बोधन, यानी दुर्गा पूजा शुरू होने की कथा। पहले मां दुर्गा की पूजा चैत्र महीने में ही हुआ करती थी। भगवान राम ने रावण को हराने के लिए पहली बार अश्विन माह में देवी की पूजा की, इसलिए बंगाल में इसे अकाल बोधन कहते हैं। यानी असमय पूजा
कथा के मुताबिक रावण को हराने के लिए भगवान राम को शक्ति चाहिए थी। इसके लिए उन्होंने देवी दुर्गा की उपासना शुरू की। देवी भागवत में भगवान श्रीराम चंद्र जी द्वारा किए गए शारदीय नवरात्र के व्रत और शक्ति पूजन का विस्तृत वर्णन मिलता है। इसके अनुसार, श्रीराम की शक्ति-पूजा सम्पन्न होते ही जगदम्बा प्रकट हो गई थीं।
नवरात्रि की महासप्तमी पर सुबह नवपत्रिका पूजा यानी नौ तरह की पत्तियों से मिलाकर बनाए गए गुच्छे से देवी आह्वान और पूजा की जाती है। इसे ही नवपत्रिका पूजा कहा जाता है। इनमें केले के पत्ते, हल्दी, दारूहल्दी, जयंती, बिल्वपत्र, अनार, अशोक, चावल और अमलतास के पत्ते होते हैं।

Sharadiya Navratri gained immense popularity during the Treta Yuga when Lord Ram began his campaign against Lanka. The story of Akal Bodhan, or Durga Puja, states that the worship of Goddess Durga originally took place in the Chaitra month. To defeat Ravana, Lord Ram worshipped the Goddess for the first time in the Ashwin month, which is why it is called Akal Bodhan in Bengal, meaning worship at an inopportune time.
According to the legend, Lord Ram needed strength to defeat Ravana, and for this, he began the worship of Goddess Durga. The Devi Bhagavata provides a detailed account of Lord Shri Ram Chandra's observance of the Sharadiya Navratri fast and his worship of power. It is said that as soon as Shri Ram completed his worship, Jagadamba manifested.
On the auspicious day of Mahasaptami during Navratri, the Navapatrika Puja, which involves creating a bundle of nine different leaves, is performed to invoke and worship the Goddess. This is known as Navapatrika Puja. The leaves used include banana leaves, turmeric, daruhaldi, jayantii, bilva leaves, pomegranate, ashoka, rice, and Amaltas leaves.
